Background: TATA-binding protein (TBP) is a key regulator of RNA polymerase II transcription. TBP2 is a vertebrate specific member of the TBP family. Similar to TBP, TBP2 can bind to the TATA box and interact with TFIIA and TFIIB but it shows different expression patterns to TBP which suggests they may play different roles. TBP2 in zebrafish is required for embryonic patterning.
