Background:  TRPV5 (Transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily V, member 5) is a calcium selective cation channel which is activated by a low internal calcium level. The current exhibits an inward rectification. It is thought to be involved in Ca2+ reabsorption in the kidney and intestine. It forms homotetramers or heterotetramers with TRPV6. Heteromeric assembly with TRPV6 modifys channel properties. TRPV5-TRPV6 heteromultimeric concatemers exhibit voltage-dependent gating.
