Background: PRDM5 is a transcription factor of the PR-domain protein family, and contains a PR-domain at the -NH2 terminus followed by 16 zinc finger motifs. It has been found to have a role in cell differentiation and tumorigenesis. A recombinant adenovirus expressing PRDM5 caused G2/M arrest and apoptosis upon infection of tumor cells. PRMD5 has been found to be silenced in breast, ovarian and lung cancers. The inactivation of PRDM5 may play a role in carcinogenesis.
